The SIRIUS WATCH:
Towards Better Data for Migrant Education Project activities

Understanding the educational backgrounds, achievements, and needs of migrant populations is crucial for policymakers, educators, and society at large. However, the availability and comprehensiveness of this data vary widely among EU countries. While some international organizations such as the OECD and the EU provide comprehensive data and analysis, there is still a gap in understanding how countries collect, categorize, and utilize this data.

Data is essential to properly assess the situation of migrant pupils in education systems, their learning outcomes, and the ability of schools to serve their needs.

The 2024 SIRIUS Watch report, “Towards Better Data for Migrant Education”, maps the availability of data on migrant education in 14 EU member states, with the aim of bringing attention to and covering this gap in the field.
